REVISITING THE POLITICAL:
ANTHROPOLOGICAL AND HISTORICAL RESEARCH
ON GREEK SOCIETY
Mytilene, 8-11 November 2007
Τhe
Department of Social Anthropology and History of the University
of the Aegean is celebrating its twenty years of operation. In
honor of this anniversary, we are organizing an international
symposium entitled Revisiting the Political: Anthropological
and Historical Research on Greek Society. The symposium
will take place in Mytilene on 8th-11th November 2007.
The symposium aims to highlight the research activity of Greek
and foreign anthropologists and historians engaged in the study
of Greek society during the last twenty years. In particular, we
are interested in approaching this research through certain key
thematic axes related to the conceptualization of politics,
state society relations, political practices and
relationships, the politics of identities and other basic
dimensions of the political in Greek society. With respect to
Greek historiography, as well, we will seek to assess new or
emerging trends over the past twenty years in the historical
analysis of politics and to encourage a dialogue between the
traditions of historiography and anthropology.
