Το Τμήμα Μαθηματικών σας προσκαλεί την *Πέμπτη 02/09/2021 και ώρα 12.00* στην ομιλία του καθ.*Bertrand Maury*(Laboratoire de Mathématiques d’Orsay, Université Paris-Saclay & DMA, Ecole Normale Supérieure) με τίτλο: Epidemic propagation : a mathematical standpoint
Summary:
The Covid-19 epidemic has triggered a tremendous amount of research projects and
studies, some of which have motivated political decisions that directly impact
billions of people worldwide. Our purpose is to give an idea of the concepts and
principles which ground some of these studies, and which also condition our
common perception of the epidemic.
We shall in particular present the celebrated SIR model, which aims at
predicting the evolution of an epidemic based on various factors. We will also
present some extensions of this model, based on graph theoretical principes, and
detail how they can be implemented to model the epidemic spread at smaller
scales (i.e. among a limited number of individuals). In a second part, more
« physical », we shall address the question of individual-to-individual
contamination through sprays (these micro-droplets that we emit while talking,
singing, or simply breathing). It has been suggested that measuring CO2
concentration in the air might be an indirect, yet robust, way to monitor the
quality of air renewing, thereby estimating the risk of spray contamination. We
shall detail the scientific / mathematical arguments which support those
considerations, which are now considered as an effective way to fight the epidemic.
Η ομιλία θα γίνει στην αίθουσα τηλεκπαίδευσης του κτηρίου Προβατάρη και θα
τηρηθούν τα πρωτόκολλα COVID-19.
